Business Tech interview with CMO Fredrik Jansson
The data center is the foundation of the digital transformation but at the same time a major environmental bug. In addition to security, speed, good cloud access and connectivity, companies choosing a sustainable alternative are critical to achieving success in a digital world.
The advice, and several others, provide DigiPlex in a guide to companies facing the decision to choose data center strategy - cloud, colocation, in-house - how should we do it?
Today, there are nine billion connected devices in the world - in five years that figure is predicted to be 50 billion. All digital activities have as a minimum common denominator that they are managed in a data center.
"Every time you stream a TV series, every time you use social media, every time you do something digital, a process starts in a data center. If that data center is energy-consuming and is run on dirty lignite, we as individuals contribute to climate change", says Fredrik Jansson, Chief Strategy & Marketing / Communications Officer, DigiPlex.
Today, data centers account for three percent of global electricity consumption and two percent of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. If development continues at the same rate, they could account for around 20 percent of electricity consumption and 5.5 percent of carbon dioxide emissions by 2025.
"Probably no other industry will come up in these volumes. Therefore, it is surprising that you do not talk about this problem at all. This is digitals "dirty little secret". continues Jansson.
